Community Mailboxes
There was once a network of neighborhood mailboxes where suburban homeowners would come to pick up their letters and newspapers. These all stand now, rusty and collapsing, in the neighborhoods south of Tashkentskaya. They're quite cute, actually, with an easily recognizable symmetrical shape, sloping gabled roofs matched by a "V" at the bottom. Each neighbor was given the smallest of slots, with a metal latch that opened into it. There's one other design of communal mailboxes you see, shaped more like a bulletin board with the words vash pochtovy indeks [ваш почтовый индекс] embossed on the front: "Your postal code." How convenient!
